Frequently Asked Questions

 

Q. I have never shot a firearm before.  Is this class for me?
A. Absolutely. The FD101-Basics course is appropriate for people at all levels of experience.

Q. Do I need to own a firearm or other gear to attend a course?
A. No. If you do not have a firearm, you may use one provided by the range.  There is an additional $10 fee that will be taken onsite (cash or credit card) to use the range firearm.  The fee includes ammunition.

Q. If I own a firearm, can I bring it to class with me?  Can I bring my own ammo?
A. Yes.  Please bring your firearm along with 50 rounds of NEW in the box ammunition (NO RELOADS).

Q. Can I mail a check or pay when I arrive?
A. No. We only take orders through our website. Walk-ins will be turned away. We plan for the number of students registered.

Q. Do I need to bring protective gear?
A. If you have your own ear protection, please bring it.  If not, we will provide you with a set of disposable foam earplugs.  We will provide you with eye protection.

Q. Is there a minimum age to participate?
A. Yes.  Participants must be at least 16 years of age to participate.  Participants ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult or a legal guardian.

Q. Will we be outside or inside?
A. The teaching portion is held inside.  The shooting portion is held outside with a canopy cover.

Q. What is the appropriate dress?
A. Close toed shoes, shorts or long pants, short or long sleeve shirt, no tank tops, no offensive or revealing clothing. It is preferred to have a shirt with a tight neck to reduce the chance of hot brass becoming trapped inside your shirt. Ball caps are ok.

Q. I received my receipt of purchase. Will I receive anything else?
A: Yes.  You will receive a welcome email within 24 hours of your purchase. You can always contact us with additional questions or concerns.

Q. Where is the shooting portion of the course held?
A: We hold our classes at the Marion County Fish and Game in Indianapolis.

Q. How many students are in a class?
A: In order to provide the appropriate one-on-one learning experience, our maximum class size is 10 people.

Q. Are there any hidden fees such as a range fee or a certificate fee?
A: No.  Your class fee includes everything.  The only additional fee is if you need to use a range gun which is $10.

Q. Are classes co-ed?
A: Unless otherwise specified on the calendar, the classes are co-ed.

Q. Will I receive a certificate at the end of my class?
A: Yes.  Upon completion of the course, you will receive a completion certificate.

Q. Is childcare provided?
A: We do not currently provide childcare services.

Q. What if something comes up and I need to reschedule my class?
A: We understand that things happen and sometimes you may be unable to attend a scheduled class. Contact us directly, and we will work with you to reschedule.

Q. Is food provided during the course?  Can I bring food into class?
A: We will provide bottled water. You are welcome to bring food into class.

Q. Do you conduct private lessons?
A: Yes, upon request.  Contact us to discuss your needs.

Q. I am interested in completing the NRA Personal Protection in the Home course. What do I do?
A: Contact us to schedule a training date.

Q. I'd like to get my Indiana Lifetime Carry Permit. Can you help with this?
A: Yes we can. Visit the Indiana State Police web page at http://www.in.gov/isp/2829.htm and begin the process yourself or we can assist you at the end of the course with starting it if you let us know before hand.
